Banksy Laugh Now public mural was created in 2002 by Banksy as a commissioned work for the Ocean Rooms Night Club in Brighton. It is the artist’s witty take on Darwin’s Theory of evolution.
The stenciled mural is spray painted in black and white on three pieces of board, one meter high and a little over six meters wide in total, depicting a row of ten (nine and a half to be exact) downtrodden monkeys standing on their back legs like humans, wearing sandwich sign boards, six of them reading “Laugh now, but one day we’ll be in charge”.
